What is On-Page SEO?
SEO which is done on your website or blog to get traffic is nothing but on page SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
So in this post, I will share with you the on-page SEO checklist which will drive traffic from search engine very easily.
Let’s begin with on-page optimization checklist
On Page SEO Checklist 2020
1.Use of SEO friendly URL’s (without stop words)
Google has said that first few words in your URL are given a lot of weight.
It is always a good practice to make your URL short and not lengthy.
Avoid using such URLs – bloggingindian.com/p=123
Or something like this – bloggingindian.com/2016/09/how-to-install-wordpress-on-hostgator-easily
2.Always start title with Keyword
You should know that your title is the most important part of SEO.
To be specific the more close your keyword is in the title, search engines will give it more weight.
3.Use of Modifiers
You should try to use modifiers like “2016”,”review”,”checklist” which can help you to rank a lot using long tail keywords
4.Use your main keyword in H1 tag
The H1 tag which is known as “Heading Tag”.CMS like WordPress use H1 tag for the blog post title.
If you use some other CMS like Drupal, Joomla makes sure you use H1 tag for your blog post title.
5.Use of rich multimedia content
Always try to include videos, images or infographics in your blog post. What will happen is it will definitely reduce the bounce rate as your visitors will stick to your content for the longer time.
This sends a very positive signal to Google that Hey..!! People are loving this guy’s content let’s rank him upwards.
Use your target or focus keyword in the H2 tag at least once in your blog post.
7.Use your target keyword in first 100 words
Make it a habit to use your target keyword within first 100 words of your blog post.
8.Use Responsive Layout
Time has changed when people used only desktops or PC’s to surf the internet.Nowadays people who use search engines use gadgets like iPad’s, smartphones, tablets.
What you think if you use same layout/design of your blog or website to be displayed on mobile.
Your website will suck badly.
Your site visitors will leave your blog/website immediately and go to another site hence increasing your bounce rate.
It’s always a good practice to use responsive design for your blog/website which can adapt the size as per the device.
WordPress has a lot of responsive WordPress themes to be used for your blog or websites.
9.Use Outbound Links
It is a concept of white hat SEO for getting more traffic.
Outbound links help Google a lot to judge what your topic is all about. It also shows Google that you are an authority and can be trusted as you link to good sources instead of bad sources.
Internal linking is a gold mine in SEO.
The blogger who mastered interlinking should not worry about getting backlinks.Yes..!! you heard it right internal links are a type of backlinks which point back to your blog/website hence it allows Google to deeply crawl your pages.
The best example of internal linking is Wikipedia. The internal link their content so nicely that is the reason they rank on the first page of Google for anything you search.
I will recommend you to link to at least 2-3 old posts when you publish your new blog post.
11.Increase site speed
Google has already said that page speed is an important ranking signal in SEO.You can use a CDN which is Content Delivery Network.
It will cache your blog content on multiple servers located across the globe hence increasing your site speed.
You can even use image compression plugins or switch to faster web hosting.
Always keep in mind that your site should not take more than 4 seconds to load.A study found that users will not visit a particular site if it takes more than 4 seconds to load.
You can check your site loading speed on GTMetrix.com or Pingdom Tools
12.Use LSI Keywords in your content
LSI keywords are the synonyms Google uses to find relevancy of the page.Sprinkle them into your blog post to boost your site rank.
If you don’t know how to find LSI keywords for your target keyword just scroll down to bottom of Google SERPs you will find a section named as “Searches related to..”
Use one or two keywords from it according to the relevancy of your target keyword.
As I said earlier Google is now focusing a lot on page speed hence optimizing images are also part of optimization which needs to be done.
Also not to forget to use your target keyword as your image name.
If your keyword is on page SEO then you should keep your image name on_page_seo.png as ALT text.
What will happen is Google bot will crawl your site and once it finds your images having ALT tags including keywords it will rank your site higher.
You will also get organic traffic from Google Image result.
Isn’t it a good thing?
Social media doesn’t play a direct role in ranking of your site. But once a content gets more share Google will get serious regarding your site and rank you higher.
Always keep your social sharing buttons active on your site so that people can easily share your content.
15.Post long content
Gone are the days when people used to rank from 100-200 words posts. The time has changed now my dear friend.
The longer your post is higher it will rank in search engines.
Always aim for at least 1000 words for an article which you write.
If you write a detailed post people will stick to it for a long time again decreasing your bounce rate and signaling Google that your site is a great hub for information.
16.Increase stop time for readers
If people hit back button on their browser once landing on your blog post it signals Google that this content is not good i.e. of low quality.
So how do you increase your stop time?
Use of action words in your content which will not make your readers bore and hit that ugly back button on their browser.
Keep them engaged with the flow of your content.
17.Ask people to comment
Always ask people to comment after reading your blog post.It will not help them clear your doubts but also it will help you increase rankings.
Now ask me how will it increase my rankings?
The answer to the question more number of comments = more links to the blog post = higher search engine rankings.
So these were important points of on page SEO activities which need to be followed when you create a content.I hope you liked my blog post on “On Page SEO Checklist 2020 – 17 Actionable Things To Follow Right Now”.
